Despite its undeniable appeal to New Age audiences, Conley's (One-Letter Words) book of more than 700 words and phrases is just as relevant to the linguist and language enthusiast as it is to Occult followers. A vividly written introduction includes contemplations on ritual and pronunciation, and each multi-paragraph entry explains meanings, origins, and literary references. Like an academic work, the text is liberally footnoted, citing pop culture, literary, or Internet uses of the word or phrase—although it occasionally omits significant references. Recommended for pop culture, New Age, and language libraries.

Magic Words review
Library Journal reviewed our Magic Words: A Dictionary in the Oct. 15 issue:
After reading this post, I decided to go on my local public library's website and request your book for their collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tamara! Much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have another library request for you. Going back to your work on gathering evidence of Tarot archetypes around us, have I already recommended the Tim Powers novel LAST CALL? It's set in Vegas and is all about Tarot figures at play (and at war) with one another. It's a marvelously exciting and intellectually stimulating adventure.
Congratulations on the wonderful review of your work! It is great to see amazing things happening for amazing people.
ReplyDeleteGood work. That's a good journal review. Congratulations.
